Example of client benefits from Transaction banking

Project: Optimisation of the Custody Network

Client: Transaction bank

Business situation

The client is a German transaction bank with a custody network formed by mergers. It reflects different philosophies of the pre-merger institutes and therefore requires harmonisation and optimisation. The main objective is cost reduction without jeopardising the high service level.

Our Approach and project scope

  • Analysis of strategic options and evaluation of a list of potential bidders.
  • Preparation of an information memorandum and preparation of an RfP for potential custodians.
  • Validation of the service offerings using internal workshops and development of an analysis method for a final scoring.
  • Preparation of business plan "global clearing" in consideration of the bank business case in total.
  • Negotiation of contracts including services, prices (transaction and safe keeping) and cut-off-times.
  • Preparation of management decision papers, project-plans, transition plans and work packages.
  • Transition testing and development of market information.
  • Monitoring of the transitions.

Business Benefits

  • Harmonisation of different custody networks, with implementation of a global custody network in consideration of significant "political interests".
  • Reduction of custody fees over 25 % under retention of a high service level.
  • Reduction of settlement staff and systems.
